Hi, welcome to Q&A with Chris.
This is session 2!
In this session we’re going to talk about travel
The first question is…

Question 1 Have you ever been abroad?

Abroad means a different country
now I don’t know exactly how many countries I’ve been to
but I would guess at least 15-20 different countries
the majority of those countries being in Europe
but I have also been to north America
and south east Asia quite a lot

Question 2 Why do so many foreigners like to visit Thailand?

Um, I think there’s many reasons why Thailand is
the number one tourist destination in the world
um, I think some of the top reasons are
because of Thailand’s beautiful nature
and the scenery and of course the food.
The food in Thailand is amazing
that’s why so many people go there just to try the local food
also, it does help that the strength of other foreign countries’ currencies
against the baht, the Thai baht, is very strong,
so that means that they get more for their money
um, it means that they can enjoy travelling
and the cost of living and travel in Thailand for foreign currencies is pretty cheap
which makes it all the more worthwhile to go to Thailand
to get the most of your money for your holiday.

Question 3 How do you like to spend your time when travelling?

I myself would probably enjoy going out into the nature of that country
or of that particular area, um, I don’t really enjoy fixed schedules
or fixed planned schedules, or fixed planned sort of routes, agendas for the day
you know, I sort of just enjoy to wake up at whatever time
and then and there, sort of think, ok…
Where do I wanna go today? What do I wanna see? What do I wanna eat?
I sort of like a spontaneous kind of holiday or travel,
I think that’s more fun than a fixed every day schedule.

Question 4 Do you prefer to travel alone or in a group?

Um, I think you can probably guess from what I answered in question 3
yeah, about question 4, is that I probably wouldn’t enjoy travelling in a group
because like I said you know, they have a fixed schedule,
and I’m somebody who’d be like,
ah, I wanna go there! I wanna do this!
And if the group wants to go somewhere else
and I don’t really wanna go there
I’d be like, uh, I’m just gonna go do my own thing
so, I’d probably enjoy travelling on my own more
um, you know, if I had a close friend with me, 2 or 3 others, that’d be cool,
but, um, I’d enjoy travelling alone more because it’s more free,
you can just do what you want,
and um, you don’t have to worry about what everybody else is doing
and going along with just other people’s ideas,
you can just do whatever you want

Question 5 Do you try the local food on your travels?

I’d really try to try the local food, um, it does depend what the local food is,
If it’s really something that I find that, no, no way, I’m not gonna enjoy that,
then I probably wouldn’t eat it.
You know some countries have…How can I put this?
Unique taste! You know, maybe for insects or bugs
or strange animals that, you know, for me, I would never eat,
like snakes and I dunno, some other kind of strange animal.
So, I would try it as much as I’m sure
I could eat it and I could actually swallow it,
rather than just, be like, ugh, you know, and struggling to eat it.
So, yeah, I do try to try the local food
as much as possible as it is possible to do so.

Question 6 How much luggage do you take on your travels?

I think the best way to travel, if you’re, like, you know going on holiday,
and you wanna go sightseeing and stuff,
obviously is to travel light, but this also depends on where you’re staying.
Cuz, um, if you’ve got a hotel all set up for like 10 days,
yeah, you can just leave all your stuff in the hotel, right?
And then just take what you need day by day, and go out and travel.
As for myself, I would probably travel quite light, um,
I’d just have one small suitcase, one carry-on that you can put on the plane.
Um, and just have enough clothes for like 7 days,
and just make sure the hotel or wherever you’re staying has a washing machine
and a washing service that you can use and you’ll be fine.
I’m sure girls would not be alright with just having 7 days’ worth of clothes,
you’d probably have like, you know, 20 different outfits at least, for a week I’m sure,
but for a guy, ah! We can just have a small suitcase worth of clothes,
as for cosmetics, ah…a toothbrush, shower gel and you’re sorted!
If you’re a girl, you probably need like, you know, a whole bag of cosmetics, right?
But, for myself, I travel light cuz then it helps me to make the most of my time,
and I don’t have to worry about where all my stuff is.
It’s all just in one small suitcase.

Question 7
Which country do you want to visit next?

I actually really would like to visit, um, Australia!
I’ve never been to Australia and my brother’s been there.
And I’ve got so many friends who’ve been there
and I’ve even got some friends who moved there to live there,
But I’ve never been there myself. So, I guess I’d like to go to Australia.
I’d also like to hear the Australian, the Aussie accent for myself, in person.
um, seeing as Australia is also another English native speaking country,
We’re sort of like cousins, you know.
All these countries which speak English as their first language,
America, England, Australia, New Zealand and sort of South Africa,
We are all sort of regarded as like the same family of English speaking people,
so, uh, it’s kind of cool when you to their country, and it’s a different country,
but you’re speaking the same mother tongue,
so, you sort of feel like, you’re cousins in some way.
So, I’d like to go to Australia, I’d also like to see what Australian food is like.
You know…Do they eat kangaroos? They have so many kangaroos, right?
I don’t think they eat kangaroos, but that would be pretty cool if they did.
but…I wouldn’t try it anyway!

Question 8 Do you always buy souvenirs from your travels?

I do, I guess, but it’s never for myself, it’s always for friends or family.
I’m sure you know, whenever you go on a trip or a holiday to somewhere,
um, especially if it’s a different country, all of your friends and family are like…
Don’t forget to buy me some souvenirs!
and… sure! You intend to do that anyway,
but the more friends and more family you have
the more souvenirs you have to buy
and the more space it takes up in your luggage,
and then for me, I’m like on my trip,
and then the last day of my trip I’m like…
Oh crap! You know, oh bugger!
I’ve got to buy loads of souvenirs for my family and my friends.
But, um, so, I usually end up just trying to find something
that I can give everybody the same thing.
You know, rather than buying everybody a different kind of souvenir.
I just buy a bag of random sweets from that place and just…
There you go, that’ll do! It’s a souvenir.
But they don’t really need to know, uh,
what the souvenirs are from that country.
You can just take anything , and say…
Yeah! Here you go, it’s a souvenir. It can just be a little candy.
As long as it has the place’s name on it. I’m sure they’ll be happy.

Question 9 How many times do you take a holiday each year?

Um, I gotta confess, I’m sort of a workaholic,
if you know that word it means that you work a lot!
I don’t think I’m crazy about work, I just enjoy my work.
Um, so, I sort of tend to forget about, you know,
maybe I should take a break and just stop working for a bit.
So, I guess in 1 year I probably take at least 2 holidays,
and each holiday is like a week, 2 weeks, and uh,
I will try as much as possible to not think about work.
but yeah, it’s difficult when, you know, you enjoy your work.
But uh, I’d say at least once or twice a year
I definitely try to force myself to go
take a holiday and relax somewhere.

Question 10 What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever visited?

Hmm, well, I’ve been to many places that are interesting.
But the most interesting place, oh gosh.
I would say probably Israel, the country of Israel,
I went to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv,
and Israel is a really interesting country for me,
because I’m a Christian, which means that
loads of the events that took place in the bible
of which I would read often, uh, happened in Israel!
So, it’s kind of cool when you’re reading the book about, you know,
Jesus went the lake of Galilei, and then you go to the lake itself,
and you’re like… Wow! Jesus was actually here,
you know, that’s really cool!
So, that was probably the most interesting place for me because
it made the bible, which I read every day or as often as I can,
it made the events that I read about in the bible
have so much more connection in real life
when I saw the actual real life
places where those events took place.
So, for me, Israel was probably
the most interesting place I have been to
because of that reason.
Alright! Thank you very much.
This is the end of session 2 about travel.
